This was by far the most challenging peak of the summer. Matanuska Peak is over 6,100', with a trailhead around 500'. But to climb up Matanuska Peak, you need to do a lot of up-and-down climbing along the way. I calculated we did 9,000 feet of vertical during the grueling 12+ hour hike! but, the view from the top made it all worthwhile, as you can see.
